Many people use distance -learning programs (TV, the Internet, post, etc.) to study at home, but some people think that it cannot bring the same benefits of attending college or university. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned about which study programme they should choose. However, whether people who directly embark on college has more benefits than those participating on distance-learning programmes is a controversial issue. My view is that leaners should go to school instead of learning via study materials because of following reasons.
First, it is obvious that face to face conversation has the greatest infuence on developing life skills such as interpersonal skills, teamwork, empathy and self-discipline. This is because the best way to hone these aptitudes is through community activities. When attending classes, learners can directly ask their teachers to solve difficult questions or they are able to interact well with their peers and from this, leaners can gradually obtain not only knowledge but also skills they need for their future.
Moreover, attending classes everday can help leaners achieve better results. This means that students will be strictly monitored by supervisors when they take the exam at school and they will be encouraged to study hearder in order to pass examination without cheating. For example, some subjects such as mathematics, chemistry and physical or special careers such as doctor and dentistry need students to pay strong attention to study and help from their teachers so that students cannot keep pace with lessons if they ignore just only one lesson.
That is not to say that people who are working on distance – studying program will not gain benefits. English is a primary example, a survey conducted by Cambridge University found that over 60% of English leaners make the most of the Internet to take an English course through websites because they think that they will have chance to communicate with foreigners who speak English well.
In conclusion, although distance education’s advantages are undeniable in some certain subjects such as languages, people should attend school because it can bring practical and professional skills that can help people become qualified employees in the future job maket.
