However, some people think old buildings should be knocked down to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices. How important is it to maintain old buildings? Should history stand in the way of progress.

Because of the fact that many old monuments, constructions are part of nations’ history, they are under the legal protection of governments in the modern society of today. Nevertheless, someone claim that such buildings should be destructed and replaced by new accomodations and workplaces. In my opinion, it is essential to reserve historically typical buildings.

First of all, the present word is experiencing the blooming population. According to a report published in 1995 of a prestigious British academic institution, it was anticipated that the worldwide population would reach the level of 7 billion in 2050. However, this has come several decades earlier. There has been an undeniable neccesity of new houses as well as offices. The demand is easily met by replacing old buildings with the state-of-the-art apartments, skyscrapers and so forth. The urgent demographic problem could be instantaneously tackled. In addition, those historical buildings’ destruction would bring about jobs for hundreds or even thousands of workers.

Having said so, the supporters of old buildings’ maintainance hold their own points of view. First and foremost, it is the existence of those constructions that teach the youth about nations’ history, their ancients as well as traditional values. Furthermore, is is frequent to witness the appliance of past architect in the modern buildings. Besides, historic monuments or towers appeal a considerable number of both local and foreign tourists so as to add to the state revenue. Hence, the authority probably spend more on public services such as education, medical service or insurance.

To put everything in a nutshell. I am strongly convinced that the old buildings’ reservation plays a pivotal role in the contemporary age.
