There has been a common belief of the society in the justice of eyes for eyes, blood for blood, which means a murder must repay for the life or lives he has taken by his own death. However, it leads to an argumentative issue: is society to be condemned of committing the same crime if they choose to kill a murderer? Death penalty, though time, has been a questionable choice, especially when life imprisonment always appears to be another available and reasonable selection.
People may argue that death punishment plays the role of a warning for anyone not to commit murder. However, sentencing a person to death is also equal to killing him, which technically is murder. That means the society is exposed to the same guilt as the person they condemned. One million dollar question: if that person has to face justice, what makes the society not? Consequently, the warning against this crime, now unfortunately turns out not as effective as people hope it will be.
In addition, life incarceration appears as good a warning as death penalty does. A whole life in prison is apparently not something people want, as the suffer and misery are formidable. The criminals, more or less, actually do have to pay for his crime during his the life imprisonment. Besides, this punishment sometimes provides the murder time to re-think about his guilt, and also gives him chance to make remedy. As a result, instead of taking away a life, society now manage to save one, as well as the person’s humanity.
In conclusion, life in prison should be a considerable punishment against murder rather than death penalty. Not only is it able to effectively warn people of the crime, but it also is a mean of saving people’s lives.
