Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that the success of common products is the result of effective advertising instead of the demand from general public. I personally disagree with this viewpoint as I think they both contribute to such achievement.

Exceptional advertising undoubtedly has positive impacts on the rise in sales. Firstly, manufacturers could target a wider breadth of consumers through online advertisements. Today, companies, for instance, take advantage of the advent of social networks to market their products to potential buyers, attracting more customers around the world. Secondly, it is commonplace to see street adverts with persuading statistics become more prevalent. This technique may potentially project the image of the manufacturers to the public and make them believe in the quality of their products. As a result, a larger number of people might be willing to purchase these items.

Additionally, the increase in sales of popular goods can be attributed to the rising demand in the society. First of all, population in some countries is burgeoning, so the rate of supply of these products should be growing at a matching pace. Therefore, more goods need to be produced to cater the need of consumers and to ensure their satisfaction, leading to more items sold to the public. Another reason is that developing and developed countries are experiencing a growth in national economy with higher purchasing power in the population. This constructive phenomenon brings about families having higher expenditures on consumer goods.

In conclusion, although effective advertising does have a considerably positive influence in the increased sales of common consumer products, the rising spending power and demand of general public also play a vital role.
