Topic:

Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion

Answer:

It is obvious that doing regular exercise would play an important role in keeping a healthy life. However, it is still controversial issue that governments should spend their funding to construct more sports facilities or to implement other measures to better public health. It would be agreed that goverment fundings should be used for improvement in health care instead. This essay will discuss both points of view before coming a reasoned conclusion.

Apparently, proponents of sports facilities assume that these buildings would encourage people to do sports more regularly. Thanks to a better awareness of a healthy lifestyle, there is an increasing number of people doing exercises to keep in shape, which then requires an expansion of public sports complexes to meet this higher and higher demand. Despite this, a lack of sports facilities should not be blamed for the laziness to take up sports because of a wide range of other alternatives such as gyms or parks. In Vietnam, for example, the elderly would prefer to do exercise in local parks with fresher air rather than in glass building.

Opponents would also argue that the large amount of money invested to expand these buildings ought to be allotted to do more research on diseases instead. There have been an increasing number of serious diseases that may lead to epidemics such as Ebola in Africa since July, 2014. It is therefore agreed that more urgent health issues should be addressed instead of construction of sports complexes. For instance, in developing countries, hospitals with modern medical equipment should be invested to handle with more and more dangerous contagious diseases in the future.

While sports facilities play an important role in enabling more people to do regular exercises, it would be far more beneficial to focus our attention to health care due to a higher risk of worldwide epidemics, the construction of sport centers.
