The word “homework” is obviously not a fresh word to each student nowadays. Students, particularly those aged between 7 and 11, however, beside the formal tuiton at school, are rather undestandably reluctant to immerse themselves in such a wide range of exercises offered by their teachers. People have raise growing concern as to whether elementary students should be given homework in such way. From my position, I feel the necessity that this should not happen for some reasons that will be stated in the following essay.

Firstly, homework is counter-productive and far from its initial purpose in helping children understand the lesson with ease. Admittedly, doing exercises is a great way of reviewing what you have been taught, through which you will have a good chance to fully grasp all the basic points of the lesson, but it had better be conducted properly. To this end, children are highly expected to do exercises right at school, that is to say, exercises shoule be offered and finished before going home.  The reason for this is that knowledge may hardly be deeply embedded in the brain of an elemenatary child whose memory is still not as good as an adult’s. As a consequense, this is highly likely to cause the sense of laziness and boredom and by default results in their neglecting to complete the tasks assigned.

At the same time, I would also argue that outdoor activities, not homework, are, for the most part, what have a significant role to play in uncovering kids’ personality and exercising their intellect. We must acknowledge the fact that elementary sudents are still in their childhood which is closely associated with games and hobbies. It is those things that contribute to find out and develop their latent and exceptional abilities for further purposes in the future. Also, the curriculum of an elementary education is quite straightforward and thus entailing little hard-work from students. For that reason, they should be encouraged to spend a vast amount of their spare time on entertainment activities rather than sitting at home studying like a bookwarm. For example, playing tag helps discover sporting abilities, playing intellectual games such as chess or crosswords helps sharpen intelligence as well as games that have the potential of finding out leadership  and many other qualities. Another point is that they appear to be the most memorable things that will never be expericenced a second time in life once children have grown up.

In conclusion, I would hold the position that homework are of little use to elemenatary students. Hence, schools should put an end to tasks designed for students to do at home.
