Eating sweet foods produces acid in the mouth, which can cause tooth decay. (High acid levels are measured by low pH values).

The line chart above shows the level of acid in the mouth produced when consuming sweet foods such as sugar, honey, fruit and compares the likelihood of tooth decay due to this acid.
It can be seen that the lower the pH, the higher the acid concentration, and the pH less than 5.5 will cause tooth decay for us. Honey is relatively safer for oral health as it is least likely while cane sugar causes tooth decay the most.
Initially the Ph level is now 7 after eating sweets for 5 minutes. We see, when eating cane sugar Ph drops to 3.5, this level of danger stays the same for 25 minutes. Next is fruit sugar, Ph drops to nearly 4 and stays at this level for 15 minutes. Finally, honey is less dangerous with the Ph level dropping to 4.9 in 5 minutes and continuing to go up for the next 4 minutes
