The table compares the millions of forest hectares in seven different areas in the world throughout the period of three years.

   Overall, while there is an upward trend in the number of forest hectares in only Asia and European parts, four remaining areas have a downward trend. It is also noticeable that Europe did not only saw a rise over the period of fifteen years but also ranked first in terms of forest area during this period.

   Between 1990 and 2005, Africa saw a significant decrease in its forested land by 130 million hectares. Similarly, the figure for forest area in South American went down from 946  to 882 million hectares. During the same period, the number of forest hectares in North America and Oceania fell slightly by 3 and 2 million hectares respectively.

   The trend for the remaining 2 areas is the opposite. In Asia, a small increase of 8 million hectares was seen in the number of forested lands. Meanwhile, Europe has continued to lead in teams of the number of forest hectares, going up from 989 to 1001 million hectares.
