It is believed that parents of children studying at private schools should not be expected to contribute to public schools through taxes. That point of view is totally different from my own.

Everyone should pay taxes for several reasons. Firstly, people would have difficulties calculating the amount of money reduced for families who pay for private education. Secondly, there are certain public services that we may not use but all pay for at least once. For example, people would not expect to pay less in taxes on police or fire-brigade services, although most of us are fortunate enough not to have to call them in our entire life. Lastly, it might appear a circumstance where the poor have to pay much more than the rich if these affluent families were given a tax discount for sending their children to private schools.

What is more, everybody would benefit from paying taxes to support state education. By doing that, people will get a high-quality educated generation and, therefore, will get a properous and developed nation. Parents of children attending private schools should also be concerned about the advantages of this in their own lives. For example, an educated generation means less crime and thus guarantees a safer environment for them and their children, just like what Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes put it in 1927: “Taxes are what we pay for a civilized society.”.

In conclusion, I do not believe that families having children entering private schools should be offered any financial concessions.
