Nowadays, many young people spend their freetime in shopping centers. Some people fear that this may have negative effects on young people and the society they live in. To what extent do you agree/disagree ?

Globalization has facilitated the rise of shopping malls and changed customers’ behaviour through advertisements. It is certainly true that the young are the most susceptible. In recent years, youngster’s habit of spending their free time roaming in shopping centers is deemed to have unfavourable impacts on themselves and the communities. Personally, I fully agree with this perspective.

Primarily, It is an indisputable fact that young people can not wander around the mall without purchasing anything as they are overwhelmed with dozens of brands in various prices and designs. Apparently, they are easily tempted to buy things impulsively and misspend on unnecessary stuff then struggle with financial difficulties afterwards. For example, when big brand names put their items at splash price, a shopaholic may buy as many things as possible due to such a rare opportunity, however, after all, they often end up being left in the wardrobe which is no more than a waste of money.

On the contrary, there is someone who opines that youngsters now can earn money by working part time or even quit their study for a full time job instead. The more time the young spend in the mall or earn money to satisfy their eagerness, the less time spent for their knowledge. Sufficiently they may earn, this can cost them lots of valuable chances and consequently ruin their career prospects as a well paid job requires at least a degree. Moreover, when the temptation to pay out combines with youngsters' inexperienced nature, they will possibly adopt a habit of recklessly spending and develop a culture of materialism. Therefore, this can form an unhealthy state of mind that exerts detrimental effects on later lifestyles.

Equally importantly, escalation of social problems is another follow-up. Due to overproduced goods, society can not avoid energy and resources wasted.

In conclusion, It is unwise to adopt the habit of spending too much time in the shopping centers.
