Over the past few years, it has been general that several nations around the world support the idea of part-time jobs for adolescents as it is considered a positive growth for their future. However, there are some arguments over this scenario because of its detrimental repercussions in terms of academics. From my perspective, I firmly believe that young people should get involved in part-time works since it helps them to enhance different aspects of life.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that part-time jobs are likely to divert students’ concentration from the study owing to the craving for their own money. To be specific, youngsters tend to devote exclusive effort to the perks that come with part-time jobs. Hence, it will deprive them of focusing on their academic performance owing to the deficit of time allocated for school tasks, which in turn leads teenagers to highschool dropouts. Furthermore, the heavy workload may trigger off the constraints on their sleep time, which forces them to suffer from fatigue and therefore prevent teenagers from engaging in class-learning.
On the other hand, the reasons why getting part-time jobs is beneficial for the young adult are varied. First and foremost, being a part-time employee would give teenagers opportunities to foster interpersonal skills since they would stumble across various people with different characteristics while working. For example, to deal with demanding customers, a waiter needs to listen and show empathy with them rather than getting angry. Thus, they would have the capability to build up support networks from their friendship, which is intensely valuable to their future career. What is more, doing a part-time job not only renders them with practical experience which uplifts their confidence but also aids students with their living expenses without family assistance. For instance, most of the part-timers tend to self-manage their living costs, including tuition fees from their earnings. Consequently, it would reduce the financial burden on their parents, particularly low-income families.
In conclusion, although having a part-time job would probably wield adverse influences on students’ academic results, I uphold the conviction that this kind of job is necessary for the overall development of a teenager as it offers them to cultivate essential skills for their adulthood. However, parents must guarantee that their children’s study curriculum should not be distracted due to the working hours.
