I would like to tell you an extraordinary lecturer, a really fantastic mentor who has a great influence on my life. His name is Tony.
I met him for the first time when I participated in a short-term course on financial statement analysis 3 months ago. He was the course’s lecturer. He was about in his mid-thirties. He is not tall, but his body appears well-proportioned with his face is quite good-looking and gentle smile. Moreover, he has bright eyes to brighten up his intelligence and his voice is very fruity as well as sweet.
However, my first impression of him was mostly not his appearance, but his method of presenting a topic. First, he has never made things complicated and tried over and over again to explain something to listeners. Second, he has a unique style of teaching was a lot different from the others as he used to relate his lectures to particular examples. In addition, his way of taking classes was very special by creating a lively, exciting discussion with his great sense of humor. For instance, he compared the financial management of a company with the way of managing to a man’s budget of his wife. This made his classes interactive and cheery.
Therefore, everything I learn from him was interesting and that’s why I remember most of the theories and techniques of the financial statement he taught me.
Before that, my impression of this subject was not very good and I considered it to be only a skill which I need to have for my job. However, his teaching and his influence changed my way of thinking about the financial statement and later on, reading a financial statement has never been so easy to understand and enjoyable for me.
As mentioned earlier, Mr. Tony had a great influence on my life with the leaven of his guidance to me on. Not only building strong knowledge in finance, but also having more inspiration to reach my dream.
I still remember the day he and I went to the coffee, he told me about his journey of becoming a lecturer and the difficulties he had must overcome. At that moment, I associated his life with a quote from Steve Jobs “Stay hungry, Stay foolish”. Especially, his stories all made me feel there was a fire in my heart and an intense desire to step out of my comfort zone. As a result, I really start to take the plan for reaching my dream, which I had never dared to do before.
I have been in a habit of asking his advice and guidance whenever I got stuck, and he has always given me encouragement that “ Try your best and don’t give up”. Because of his mobilization, I motivated myself to continue to look ahead. Also, today, I have improved a lot in learning English, thanks to his help. Thus, I am very thankful for being fortunate to meet him such an inspired, energetic and creative lecturer. To my mind, he is not only a lecturer but also my wonderful mentor. Therefore, I really, really admire him.
In closing, I’d like to express my gratitude to Mr. Tony that “ Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything, you allow me to see the hope inside myself”.
Good luck for your exam!
