Task 2: In recent years, there has been growing interest in the relationship between equality and personal achievement.Some people believe that individuals can achieve more in egalitarian societies. Others believe that high levels of personal achievement are possible only if individuals are free to succeed or fail according to their individual merits. What is your view of the relationship between equality and personal success
People have different views about individual’s achievement how they can better achieve it either through egalitarian society or by personal merits. From my point of view, I completely agree that people can achieve more in an egalitarian community.
First of all, when equality in societies is presented, it will bring about opportunities for citizens to access to education because education is an important factor with regard to personal success in life. For instance, the government’s support in paying children’s education will encourage more children to go to school, especially those who were born in poor families that do not have the financial means to pay for school tuition, books, or school uniforms.
Furthermore, in egalitarian societies all individuals have the same chance to go after opportunities and develop their skills. Take gender issues as an example, in many societies or cultures, despite several personal merits, a woman is never given same opportunities for promotion as a man, particularly in workplaces. Therefore, as equality is guaranteed, they can pay more attention to their work, which would help them achieve success.
Finally, I believe that most people will have more motivation to work hard and try their best when they live in a fair society. Everyone starts from one point as well as each other; therefore, if they do not try to increase knowledge or gain experiences, they will lose opportunities.
In conclusion, although the relationship between personal success and society’s equality remains controversial, I argue that an equal society will help people gain more success.
