In the age of industrialization, it is true that the effects of modern communication technology is a highly prevalent issue in our community. Numerous people believe that it has adverse influences on social relationships. Personally, I partly agree with this notion.
On the one hand, undoubtedly, technological development in communication enhances social associations a lot. The correspondence between people or cooperation among foreign countries used to be a tough problem. However, with the help of hi-tech devices, the geographical corridor is eliminated and communication is simplified by Internet or telephones, so people can expand their range of social relationships easily which will benefit them in work or social contexts.
On the other hand, the appearance of new communication technology can lead to many burning issues. Firstly, electronic devices cause social isolation and discourage real interaction. People become more dependent on devices because communicating online is convenience and helps them saving much time instead of face-to-face communication. Consequently, many teenagers decide to make friends online rather than mixing their peers in real world. In addition, many young people may have large number of friends but few in virtual reality, lead to a situation they feel depression and loneliness in life and emerge into the unrealistic world. According to one survey, more than 50% adults describe themselves as lonely and the happiness level has rapidly decreased in recent years. Another potential hazard of via communication is that relationships on social networks are not reliable and not the ideal place for illegalities. The criminals misuse the lack of privacy in Internet to commit their crimes through fake relationships to fraud money.
In conclusion, though technology has certainly revolutionized communication between people, it still contains potential risks. However, I believe that it is up to us how to utilize state-of-the-art communication technology to take advantage of it.
