Some people think that studying from the past offers no benefits to today’s life while others believe that history is a valuable source of information for us.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some people think that learning from historical events plays an indispensable part in modern life, while others see it differently. There are arguments on both sides, which we will discuss here.

On the one hand, assimilating knowledge is a long journey from the very beginning of time. What we have today, unarguably, partly is the legacy inherited from our forefathers. Studying from the achievements of the past helps us save and enormous amount of time. Countless modern devices nowadays were developed based on the research and development of former generation such as computers, mobile phones, electronic family equipment, etc. Besides, taking a deep look into failures of long-gone events brings us multiple lessons. One can never forget the atomic bombs dropped onto Hiroshima and Nagasaki which left detrimental impacts on the two cities for years and the consequences still remain until now.

On the other hand, being too dependent on the past has various drawbacks. First, it limits creativity and lowers the chance of creating unprecedented events and inventions. Smartphones and tablets have entirely changed the way people communicate, which is attributed to those who think out of the box. Second, utilizing conventional methods does not always bring optimum results, especially with the development of technologies nowadays. For instance, people now use emails, social networks or other messenger applications to keep in touch in lieu of original paper letters.

To sum up, we cannot deny the important role of learning from the past. Nevertheless, people should also reach for futuristic ideas to ensure a continuous and instantaneous development.
