The bar chart reveals the total net wealth of the UK as well as the figures for households businesses and government between 2000 and 2010. Overall, the UK was becoming increasingly more prosperous, which was mainly contributed by household sector. In fact, the total wealth of the UK increased gradually from a little under €4,000 billion, reaching a peak of €6,500 billion in 2007. It experienced a short period of decline before returning to the mark of €6500 billion in 2010. Subsequently, it dipped to €6000 billion but quickly recovered to its high point of €7000 billion. Following the same trend, household wealth grew from €4500 billion to nearly €7000 billion in the period between 2000 and 2007. The changes in the net wealth of households and that of UK as a whole were similar except for the year 2009 when the former showed a marked improvement while the latter was still on the decrease.

Compared to other sectors, businesses were the only to show negative net worth and witnessed the most fluctuations. Initially, the figures stood at - €1000 billion, and then tripled during the period of 2000 and 2002 before returned to its low of -€1000 billion in 2006. Among its last four years of recovery, 2008 was the first time when the net wealth for businesses was not negative. Contrastingly, government sector stabilized at about €200 billion for most of the time. Only until the end of the period did it drop slightly.
