In some countries, students must pay tuition for university and college. In some others, goverments pay it. Do the advantages of using government money for universities and colleges outweight the disadvantages.

More and more people pursue further education after graduating high school. While I agree that subsidizing higher education by government can sometimes have some positive effects on students and workforce, I still believe that the drawbacks of this trend far outweight than the advantages.

On the one hand, the policy of allocateing national buget for tertiary education is beneficial in terms of educational equality and employee’s quality. When tuition for university and college are free, students from all of social class could access this education level easier, especially rural and remote areas. In many developing countries including Vietnam, governments encourage students from mountainous provinces in study further by providing tuition fee, study material and monthly expenditures get balance between student from urban and rural areas. Also, this helps to enhance the quality of workforces for countries. The more workers study further, the more knowlegde and qualification of them improve.

On the other hand, I believe that the disadvantages of this proposal are even more significants. The issue of governments provide free higher education might make students lose their spontaneous enthusiasm with learning. Because they do not respect the important of educational system which they are receiving. Moreover, the ideal of further education subsidizing by government possibly might waste national budget for other neccesary fields. This leads fewer funds for health care, social securiry and environment, which are holding the key importance of the country.

In conclusion, it seems to me that the drawbacks of expending government money on universities and colleges do outweight the benefits. The government should balance their expenditure on various sectors and only subsidize for students having difficult circumstances.
