Some people regard video games as harmless fun, or even as a useful educational tool. Others, however, believe that video games are having an adverse effect on the people who play them. In your opinion, do the drawbacks of video games outweigh the benefits?

People have different views about the influence of video games these days. While I accept that there are some positive effects of these games on users, I believe that there are more drawbacks than benefits.
On the one hand, there are several reason why it could be argued that to some extent, video games are beneficial to people. Firstly, video game play is associated with improvements in brain function such as hand-eye coordination and faster reaction times, helping children enhance some basic skills. In many video games, the skills required involve abstract and high level thinking, which are not even taught at school. Action games train the brain to make faster analyses and decisions without losing accuracy. Secondly, video games introduce children to computer technology and the online world. Living in a high-tech, sophisticated world, by getting used to computer when playing games, children are able to adapt and be comfortable with the concepts of computing.
On the other hand, I would agree with those who believe that video games have a harmful impact on individual and society as a whole. One problem is that violent video games corrupt teenagers’ minds and cause them act out in negative ways. These games desensitize adolescents to violence and teach them that violence is an acceptable way to resolve conflicts. Players are rewarded points when they kill a person on video games and gradually, they tend to commit violence rather than watch it so that they can get points in real life. Being addicted to games, children may spend less time doing such activities as reading a book, playing outside or engaging with friends. In addition to this, video games may have bad effects on some children’s heath, including obesity, postural and skeletal disorders such as nerve compression, carpal tunnel syndrome and so on.
In conclusion, there are convincing arguments both for and against video games, but I would consider that the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages.
