In recent decades, animal testing has played a vital part in human being developments, particularly in medical and scientific research. Some assert that this is unacceptable with regard to moral issue. Others, including me, assume that animal experimentations are pivotal factors for medical and scientific advancements and the safety of humans. Is this essay, I will discuss deeply this problem.
To begin with, there are some valid reasons to experiment on animals. In the first place, thanks to such experimentations, medical and scientific knowledge was advanced. There are a variety of medical discoveries, relying on animal testing. It is highlighted by the fact that cancer survival rates have continued to rise in recent decades by improving of medical treatments. A more important is the safety of new drugs in human uses. Because of the similarity of gene structure between human and animals, researchers aim to minimize the suffering that animals experienced in the new drugs.
On the contrary, opponents definitely disapprove in terms of morality. Experimentations would cause pain to animals and reduce the quality of their lives in other ways. Human has no rights to take animal lives. We can take alternative methods of data analysis, computer models or studying cell structures rather than the whole animals. Nevertheless, such techniques cannot replace in all testing with the equal results. It would lead to the risks of human lives if researchers do not have valid evidences on new drugs.
In conclusion, everything has two sides, and animal testing is not an exception. I assent partly to animal testing for the enormous benefits of the scientific improvements. Beside of this, some alternative methods should be taken to reduce the animal suffering.
