Some people argue that the government should spend money on public services and facilities, but not on the arts. Do you agree or disagree?
The arts has always served as an indispensable part of human being since the very starting point of mankind on Earth. It (the arts) has been developed through years and has had various types which still enrich the psychological world. Despites of its benefits, it is suggested that the public money should be directed elsewhere such as public services and public facilities instead of the arts. I hereby in this essay in order to analyze when should the local authority spend money on services or the arts.
On the one hand, public facilities are foundational materials of a district or a city. Improving equipment is equivalent to satisfying the basic demands of the residents there. The government should invest more money for an undeveloped countryside region to help them build enough necessities. For instance, a local authority should construct roads, build schools, hospitals, parks before concentrate to aesthetic places. Moreover, if the public services of an urban area are developmental then it is possibly attractive to entrepreneurs (domestic or abroad) to invest money to that place in order to develop the economy there; after that the city itself could maintain and flourish without any financial intervention from the government. Numerous cities are developmental and become a worth traveling city in this way.
On the other hand, the arts is always a special interest and plays an essential role for residents in a city or in a broader term, a country. In every country, arts are maintained by a lot of organizations funded by the government and exhibitions are still established monthly everywhere. For instance, history museums exhibit historical war keepsakes or in art exhibitions, painting, sculpture are displayed. Furthermore, there are countless number of people who live based on art activities such as artists, composers so encouraging art activities is obviously beneficial to people working on arts and those who enjoy art. Nevertheless, arts should be considered only after the residents was satisfied basic demands; in a poor area no one has time to enjoy arts.
In conclusion, the government and local authorities should carefully consider whether investing money in services and facilities or in arts, it depends on the temporary financial conditions of the city.
