It can be seen that there are many people suffering from shyness and this becomes a topic which numerous scientists are looking into. According to the latest research, they have found that shyness can be attributed to two factors: biology and environment.

It is documented that some newborn babies are innately timid. Through heredity, shyness is passed down from ancestors to consecutive generations and thus, this trait has been formed since a child was born. Overall, genetic determinant is the first to cause shyness and from this, people will perceive why it is almost impossible to  improve even when they become adults.

On the contrary, environment is another factor influencing on the feeling of shyness since signs of shyness can disappear or form as a child grows up due to family life and education.

Home life is the first cause of shyness to be analyzed. In fact, children are becoming more and more overprotected. Consequently, they lose chance to contact with surrounding people beside their parents, which makes them inhibited.

The second element leading to shyness is education from schools. It is obvious that teaching methodology of a nation is wholly different from the others. To exemplify, Vietnamese students are educated through grammar-translation method while the American are taught using communicative language teaching. Clearly, the former technique is more passive; therefore, no oral interaction is formed among schoolmates, so they will find it hard to communicate with each other because shyness is the invisible barrier. As expressed, appropriate methods should be applied by the Minister of Education to reduce the number of introvert students.

Apart from some negative aspects, shyness also has its advantages. It is widely recognized that although shyness is the culprit of isolated social relationship, shy people are viewed to be more cautious, which helps them to gain much success in life. As a result, shyness is not always adverse as it is assumed.

Briefly, both gene and environment are the root of awkwardness. Finally, we can help shy individuals prevent from the state of timidity through family life and education.
