In the context of current (THE) education system in Vietnam,a controversial issue has arisen after (THE 2016’s ) Vietnamese high school graduation and entrance university examination that whether or not bonus scores bring overwhelming advantages to students with specific conditions over students in metropolitan cities in terms of being admitted to high-ranked universities. From my view, this education regime is no longer pertinent to the current education training programme due to several primary factors.
On the one hand, application of bonus marks in Vietnam’s national university entrance exam helps to bridge the gap between underprivileged students and those endowed with favorable conditions.Factually (as a matter of fact) , students who hail from rural or mountainous regions, or even belong to ethnic groups are contricted (constricted) from gaining access to updated and advanced materials and high quality curriculums. Consequently, this problem not only suppress (suppresses or does not ony suppress) them from keeping pace with their counterparts in urban areas but also stifle (stifles) the development of their full potential. From this perspective, enforcing the practice of bonus points shows (is shown to) to cultivate a fairer competition with regard to students from both advantageous and unfavorable backgrounds.
On the other hand, there are undoubtedly negative issues existing within this education policy.First and foremost,in view of the advancement of today’s technology network, that wireless network connection also spreads to even nearly almost (the) remotest areas enables students in those regions to update the lastest (latest) information about changing-world events and most importantly acquire the most up-to-date academic materials. This breakthrough of technology ( technological breakthrough) partly elucidates the unreasonable points in the application of bonus marks that students in big cities are given no edge over their peers in the countryside while the former groups have to suffer from loss of decisive points at least 0,5.Another burning issue is corruption regarding forged papers about backgrounds. This by all means creates an unjust system where students with inadequate academic abilities show superiortity (Superiority)over more academically qualified ones.Furthermore, this practice results in a more serious repercussion of education of reduced teaching quality stems from poorer academic performance of such students than their peers.
In conclusion, the application of bonus marks is only beneficial in the case of creating a fair system of treating really underprivileged students and advantageous ones.Neverthless, it also gives rise to injustice to those who possess higher competence than fraudulent ones at the advantage of bonus points when they have to study in lower-ranked universities.
