It is true that it requires immense effort in order to understand and apply knowledge aquired. However, many students are struggling to focus on their study at school. This essay will discuss several reasons causing this phenomenon and propose some solutions to tackle this issue.
There are several reasons that cause students to have shorter attention span. Undoubtedly, electronic devices can play a major role in distracting students. When feeling bored during lecture, students turn to their smartphones for distraction. They use these devices to access materials unrelated to their study like mobile games or to send messages through social networking application. This will certainly prevent them form listening to their teachers. Another factor which can certainly lower students’ attention span is background noise. Loud and irritating noise from construction sites can prove disruptive to the learning experience. Loud noise will definitely impact students hearing ability and also disturb the atmosphere of the classroom.
However, some measures can be adopted to tackle this problem. First, imposing ban on the use of smartphones in classrooms can deter students from being distracted during lessons. If they do not check their phone from time to time, they can immerse themselves in the lessons. To deal with the issue of noise, sound-proof materials can be installed in classrooms to reduce the level of background noise. When noise level is reduced, students can hear their teachers more clearly and teachers can teach without difficulty. A peaceful environment will, without a doubt, improve students’ concentration.

In conclusion, while the use of smartphone in classroom and the level of background noise can affect students’ ability to concentrate, several actions can be taken to deal with the matter.
