The line graph shows the historical oil prices per barrel from 1973 to January 2009.

The line graph demonstrates the variation in unit price of oil dating back in 1973 until the beginning of 2009.

Overall, throughout the time, the price of each oil barrel experienced a dramatic fluctuation and increased significantly eventually.

Nearly the first seven-year period, each oil barrel cost grew approximately ten times and reached a peak of 40 dollar. From that point forward to 1985, the price gradually dwindled to about 18 dollar and continued oscillating prior to 2003. During the next four years, it is noticeable that the value of a single oil barrel surged to 60 dollar till around 2007, and spiked closely vertically to the highest level at over 140 dollar which exceeded more than a hundred times as the initial price. Lasting from the middle of 2008 to January 2009, there was an astounding decimation of the oil unit price. In comparison, nearly 42 dollar an oil barrel in 2009 was forty times more than in 1973.
