Given is the diagram that illustrates the three stages in the life of salmon- a large fish.
It is noticeable that there are three main stages in the development of salmon from egg to mature adult salmon.
The first stage begin when adult salmon lay eggs around reeds and small stones in the upper river where water run very slowly . After that, each egg hatches and “fry” emerges. After living there for about 5-6 months, each “fry” moves to the lower river where the flowing is faster. This stage last for approximately 4 years before they become “ smolts” which are twice longer than “fries” of 12-15 cm. At the next stage, “ smolts” migrate from lower river to open sea. After spending 5 years living there, “Smolts” grow into adult salmons with the body length of 70-76 cm. Then, they come back to upper river for reproduction and the life circle start again.
