Some people think that the best way to increase road safety is to increase the minimum age for driving cars or riding  motorcycles.

It is believed that raising the legal age for driving is the feasible method of decreasing danger on the roads. While this may be true to some extent, I would argue there should be other routes to decrease danger on the roads.

On the one hand, there are a variety of reasons why the legal age for driving should be older. To begin with, many serious accidents reflect the recklessness of younger drivers. Particularly, in Vietnam, a lot of young drivers tend to disobey the traffic laws: running a red light, driving without a helmet, organizing illegal races,... As a result, this leads to the growth of casualty rates and the fare of other people who can be easily affected by lawbreakers. In addition, the drivers should be older to be responsible for their actions. To be more specific, many of the young are not mature enough to totally perceive the consequences that they cause. Therefore, increasing the age to have a driver license can make sure that people have a good awareness in order not to commit driving offences.

On the other hand, I am of the opinion that this solution is not effective in the long run. First of all, people would ignore the rules, no matter how old they are. In other words, reckless actions are prevalent among both young and old; for example, the old are able to offense when being drunk or misunderstanding the driving laws. Instead of that, drivers should be educated and trained better before officially entering traffic. Moreover, there are further workable solutions that can be adopted. For instance, the government should have strict regulations for traffic violators such as enacting a heavier punishment and even giving longer prison sentences. Consequently, people will gain their attitude and create good habits that can improve driving security.

In conclusion, although it seems evident that driving should be forbidden to younger drivers has its own unique advantages, I still support the idea that there are several plausible measures to make roads more secure.
