The huge amount of waste, both hazardous and non-hazardous, contributes to pollution. It is opined that the domestic waste recycled is not enough and the sole way to develop recycling is to make it a legal obligation. I agree that governments should legalize the waste processing; however, I believe that in addition to it, there are other methods.

Obviously, people hardly do their duties for the community voluntarily without the force of laws and punishment. For example, in some countries, many residents do not wear helmets when riding their motorbikes since the traffic rules there are not strict enough and the fines is not heavy. Therefore, imposing laws on recycling can encourage people to dispose their garbage strictly. Consequently, the recycling process can be more effective.

Another reason why I think recycling should be legalized is that it raises public awareness of these environmental procedures. Take the environmental laws of Singapore as an example. Since heavy fines were applied, most of the country’s citizens have kept their surroundings clean and not left litter, because they have been aware of the importance of environmental protection. Similarly, if recycling is included in laws of environment, people will carry out the tasks properly.

On the other hand, in my view, legalizing recycling is not enough to solve the household waste problem, but more steps should be taken. Governments should offer more opportunities for education on waste processing. For example, a few chapters related to this can be added to school curriculum, so residents can have a deeper insight into it at an early age. Advertisements, television programs, online forums or other means of media can also be effective methods to make recycling tasks general habits.

In conclusion, it turned out that there is not enough domestic waste to recycle. Although I agree that governments should make recycling legally mandatory, I still believe that more solutions should be provide to combat the issue. In these ways, people can maximize the recycling of garbage and conserve the environment.
