Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment, only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
How to maintain the environment has always been a great concern in many societies. While some people view the responsibility belongs solely to the government and large companies, a school of thought claims that individuals can also make a contribution to alleviating the problem. This essay aims to analyze the situation and state my own perspective.
On one level, the government and large enterprises are of great importance in the improvement of the environment. In actual fact, the government has enacted laws and policies by imposing certain punishments on people who offend the natural and living habitat. In addition, numerous environmental campaigns have been established to enhance the citizens’ awareness towards this matter.
As for the large companies and manufacturers, it is evident that their production process has become increasingly environmentally- friendly. As an illustration, since various scientific reports about global warming have been revealed, many businesses have made an effort to prevent the situation by cutting down the amount of gas emission from their factories. Another stark example is the emergence of corporations such as The Body Shop, a Korean cosmetics brand renowned for its green products.
From another angle, however, the citizens also play a crucial role in bettering the environment. As a matter of fact, simple actions such as stopping throwing litter on the streets or taking public transports have lessened pollution to the surroundings. Recycling has gained its foothold as a commonplace in many developed countries, which helps reduce considerably the production of non-biodegradable materials such as plastic.
In conclusion, improving the quality of the environment calls for efforts from both governments, large enterprises, and individuals. The responsibility to make a difference belongs to everyone living in our societies.
