Detailed reporting of crime has bad effects. Consequently such details should not be reported in the media. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The world has experienced the boom of crime rate throughout many nations in these days. The issue of whether elaborate report of crime should be public or not remains controversial. While there are certainly valid arguments to the contrary, I personally believe that such details should not be spread out.

The arguments in favour of the freedom of crime-related information would be that it possibly alert the community to be cautious. If the citizens have notifications about the offenders, they will protect themselves better. Besides, it is also an effective way of threatening the potential criminals not to flout the law. However, from my point of view, this opinion is shortsighted. The power of the press could result in the social fear because people feel crime so vivid that it might happen to them in some circumstances. As a result, after being released, these inmated, albeit rehabilitated, tend to have difficulties in integrating into society.

There are a variety of drawbacks when elaborate matters about crime are reported to the media. First and foremost, it is a irrefutable fact that the idea would pose a danger of harm to victims, their relatives and friends for the second time. When watching these news, those perhaps recall the hurtful and terrified past moments. For example, it would be cruel for family losing their son to undergo that pain again. Secondly, circulating these information appears to lead to trouble for the police into catching wrongdoers. The press by chance uncover the offenders some tutorial clues or tips to potential convicts. Thus, those would have ability to avoid detection and capture.

In conclusion, the dissemination of information about crime in the media brings more disadvantages than advantages for society. The police should control the amount of these materials in the press because of some above outlined reasons.
