The chart provides the data on the inflow, outflow and net- flow of international migrants in UK from 1999 to 2008

It can be seen from the chart that over the given period, Uk experienced a steady increase in both immigration and emigration rates.  The inflow of people to UK was greater than the outflow with the high –record net gains in 2004 and 2007.

In 1999, approximately 450 000 people immigrated to live in UK, while the number of people who emigrated from UK to live abroad was 3000, resulting in the net migration of around 160000.

From 1999 to 2004, the number of migrant coming to UK increased by 150 000 , which was triple as many as an increase of 50 000 people who moved abroad. The net migration remained stable before it hit the record high of 250 000 in 2004.

After 2004, the country continued its upward trend in migrant inflows, but outflows fluctuated with a low in 2007 and a peak of over 400 000 people in 2008. As the result, the net flows rose to around 240 000 in 2007 before it dropped considerably to just 160 000.
