The main visitors to museums and historical sites are tourists, not local people

Why is it the case? What can be done to attract local people to these places?

Tourists are generally drawn to museums and historical locations when visiting new countries. However, records have shown local people’s low attendance at these attractions. Some explanations will be put forward before solutions can be drawn to tackle this problem.

There are several reasons as to why tourists, instead of the local people, come to museums and historical places. First, these locations can provide visitors with a comprehensive overview of the traditions in the particular locality they are situated. As a result, such destinations are generally more appealing to the newcomers than to the locals, those without the need to familiarise themselves with the traditional values of the region. Moreover, because the layout of museums and historical houses is likely to remain unchanged through years, they can be visually unattractive to the local inhabitants, who may have been to these sites for at least once in their younger years.

Several measures can be prompted to promote locals’ attendance rate at buildings for historic relics and museums. The main solution is to change the public’s perception of such places as sites for only monotonous activities. Should civic events including weddings, anniversaries and concerts be allowed to be held in these locations, they would attract substantial public attention to historical values. Another resolution is that historians and preservationists should be featured more frequently on the media, with their articles on the tremendous worth of museums and historical remains.

To conclude, historical areas and museums can be uninteresting for local citizens because they can be too familiar with the culture that these places depict. To better this, there should be more media coverage on historical assets, and also more open-door policies to use such locations as spots for more public-oriented activities.

TOPIC task 2 tuần này ngày 14/01/2016 :

The main visitors to museums and historical sites are tourists, not local people

Why is it the case? What can be done to attract local people to these places?

People are getting more concerned about why most visitors come from other areas instead of local one. Typically,This heated issue happens not only in developed and developing nations but also in third countries. To be specific, this essay will discuss about cause and solution of this topic.

Personally, I think there are several reasons for explaining this problem. Firstly, local residents have visited frequently many well-known places in their land so far. As a result, they could get bored of repeating this activity and try to find other destination outside their zones. Secondly, it is a waste of money to sightsee some tourist attractions which unchanged through a long period. For example, Hue has several beautiful places like the citadel or perfume pagoda which need to be always preserved and protected for keeping historical features. These places are not popular with local teenagers who have been to destinations once in the past.

There are several solutions which could be taken out to boost the number of local attendances. The main solution is to celebrate many events or competitions with celebrities in many museums or historic relics. Moreover, Weddings or meetings also could be held as a concentration event in these locations. Otherwise, another realistic preventive measure is multiplying pieces of art and history in the museum and rebuild some old and unattractive temples which have no good or positive aspects to general public.

In conclusion, i think the duty belongs to both governments and citizens and the issue could be handled more effective if people go hand in hand to increase the figure of visitors in their particular areas.

The main visitors to museums and historical sites are tourists, not local people Why is it the case? What can be done to attract local people to these places?

At present, a phenomenon taking place widely in many countries is the main visitors who participate in museums and historical regions are tourists, not local people. Having several dominant causes is pointed out to explain this issue and some auspicious resolutions should be implemented to tackle it.

There are multiple reasons can be shown to interpret this occurrence. A large number of people always believed that historical events exhibited in museums which they were taught in schools many times. Thereby, they do not need to visit such historical relics any more. Another opportune explanation supporting this statement is that the arrangement of exhibits is not alluring inhabitants because pictures are confusedly placed without any profoundly guiding information and exciting. Besides, historical sites are public areas where crowd a plenty of travelers must line up for a long time to only watch some historic artifacts that is not worthwhile. As a result, many local residents can be uninteresting to come by those places.

Several feasible measurements should be taken into account to address this situation. From government’s perspective, its relevant agencies carefully consider to attach some real visitations relating to historic lessons to encourage their schoolchildren more caring about local history. In addition, authorities should provide free-entrance for inhabitants who would like to research and learn their regional history. From archives’ perspective, its administration should organize regular exhibitions and create a friendly environment with the combination between outdoor activities and historical knowledge which local citizens do not feel humdrum while visiting museums.

To conclude, historical areas and museums cannot be gorgeous regional citizens because these demonstrate things they had already known and time-consuming while waiting their turn to enter such locations. To improve it, there should be more attempts from competent agencies should enact more favorable policies to promote local’s attendance figure.

Many tourism destinations are well-known for their wonderful museums and historical sites which appeal thousand and thousand tourists every year. Ironally, these attractions are ignored by local residents. This essay will discuss the reasons and the posible solutions to this issue.

To begin with, the familarity is major factor which makes local people out of curiosity and have no desire to visit these places. It is such sense which causes the boredom to the people who live near these historistic sites. Many people who live in my neighborhood admit that they have never gone to see the citadel which was regconized by UNESCO for World Cultual Heritage some years ago since they know by heart what are inside the citadel and the stories around it from members in family even without visiting them. Besides that, the serious degradation of the museums and historical sites explains the decreasing in number of local visitors. Surely, there will be nobody who wants to see the ugly, broken attractions.

There are some measures which can be taken to call the attention of local people and encourage them to go to historistic sites in their spare time. Firstly, history experts can be invited to rearrange the items in the museums and historical sites so that they have fresh apprearance but do not lose the pro-long existed spirit. Secondly, the visits to the historistic sites should be integrated in local history classes as an outdoor activity which will help learners feel very relaxing when they are there. Lastly, government should spend the amount of State’s budget on recovering the damaged historistic sites so that they can remain their values of architectual and historical beauties.

In conclusion, people turn their back against museums and historical sites in their residence for some reasons and I belive that these can be solved with the measures I mentioned above. (309 words)

The main visitors to museums and historical sites are tourists, not local people.

Why is it the case? What can be done to attract local people to these places?

Across the world, there are countless places with their own museums and historical sites. However, rather than garnering the interest of local residents, more often than not it is foreign tourists that are attracted to these sites. This situation seems to stem from the fact that people tend to be drawn towards unfamiliar sites, and whilst perhaps not a fault in and of itself, there could definitely be benefits for local residents to visit these sites as well. This essay will explain the cause of this phenomenon in further detail, and dictate potential methods that could boost visits from local residents.

To begin with, it has always been true that humans are drawn towards unfamiliar sites and situations, due to our innate curiosity. Since the dawn of humankind, people have explored the world, resulting in our global migration and establishment. Although this is no longer the case, our curiosity still remain, and hence still piqued by what is new and different. Given that, when it comes to local museums and historical sites, there would not be much interest when they feel familiar to the local residents, who would regard the sites as just a waste of time. After all, if one’s main goal is that of discovery and learning, then there is no point examining what is already known. In contrast, museums and historical sites far away tend to harbor stories from different cultures, lives and beliefs. This means that there is more to gain from visiting these locations as a foreign tourist, with so much more that can be learnt of. Therefore, it would simply be due to our attraction towards the unknown that people would tend towards unfamiliar sites, rather than local ones.

The truth though, is that local museums and historical sites can harbor many secrets that even the local residents would not know of, despite the fact that they may think otherwise. This would mean that to attract more local residents towards these spots, it would be a simple matter of igniting the residents’ curiosity. The best way to do so, is to have professionals that could go through the museums and historical sites, uncovering and highlighting the main attractions, before providing the local residents with a glimpse via advertisements. This should induce the residents to visit the local sites, once they start to realize that they may be missing out by not visiting their local sites. Given that the sites would then be professionally analysed and prepared too, it is also more likely that those who then ceded and visited the sites would detail their visits to their peers, hence then piquing their peers’ interest as well. Eventually this would draw in more and more local residents.

In conclusion, the lack of visits by local residents to local museums and historical sites are mainly due to a lack of curiosity towards said sites by the residents. Therefore, the best way to engage the local residents, would be to ignite their curiosity towards the local sites, which would draw them in. Whilst many argue that it is not of absolute necessity to draw in interest from local residents, there are many advantages to it – such as better educating the local residents, connecting them closer to their own culture and traditions, and of course, increasing the popularity of these local sites.
