The chart describes the expenditure on fast foods per person per week in Britain and the graph indicates changes in consumption of this kind of foods between 1970 and 1990.

Generally, high income groups spent more money on fast foods than other groups. Besides, there was an upward trend in the amount of hamburgers & pizza eaten while that of fish and chips declined slightly.

As can be seen, each person in high income group spent 42 pence per week on hamburgers, more than twice on pizza and fish-chips. Hamburgers was also the most favorite food of medium income workers, each of them expended 33 pence per week, followed by fish-chips and pizza with 25 and 13 pence respectively. Whilst, low income earners prefered fish and chips the most, they paid 18 pence for this food per person per week, then hamburgers and pizza with 14 and 8 pence correspondingly.

In 1970, the consumption of fish and chips ranked first with 300 grammes, followed by hamburgers with 90 grammes and only 40 grammes on pizza. In the next 20 years, that of hamburgers and pizza experienced a same movement: it rose rapidly to over 500 grammes on the first one and to about 290 grammes on another. While that of fish and chips dropped to the lowest point in 1985 before climbing slowly during the last 5 years.
